Successful Ship Recycling Concept
H.J. Hansen harvests great success within demolition and ship recycling.
With a large demolition contract in hand from the Danish Defence, H.J. Hansen has started a large-scale demolition process at Lindø, where three worn out vessels: Niels Juel, Olfert Fischer and Peter Tordenskiold are cut up for scrap.
Vessels suitable for recycling
Each of the corvettes measures a length of 84 meters and a width of 10 meters. The body of the vessels is made of iron with a superstructure of aluminum. Each vessel weighs approximately 1100 tonnes. Thus, the vessels are very suitable for recycling - More than 95 % of the vessels will be recycled. The iron and metals become raw materials which enter into the manufacturing of new products.
Great Decommissioning Facilities at Lindø
The facilities at Lindø offer great potential and opportunity for solving large-scale and complex recycling projects. H.J. Hansen is actively engaged in utilizing these facilities. Particularly, we focus on ship recycling and demolition of offshore installations, which are areas with high demands on technology, facilities and environmental considerations.
Ship Demolition is a Complex Matter
Ship recycling demands a number of national and international standards and requirements within environmental, work environmental and materials handling issues – H.J. Hansen has the required expertise, control systems and perfect facilities for ship recycling projects.
H.J. Hansen uses a Recycling Documentation Scheme which provides full documentation of the safety, environmental and economic issues. It contains a material declaration, a recycling plan and material recovery documentation.
H.J.Hansen has employees with great technical knowledge and years of experience within environmental issues, recycling and project management. Our recycling projects are managed from start to finish by a project supervisor. Moreover an environmental and safety manager is appointed in each project in order to ensure plans and requirements are met. A recycling site manager is responsible for the over all work performed in each recycling project.
Competent and Experienced
H.J. Hansen has a long history of recycling commercial and navy ships and vessels. In the post world war 2 period ship demolition was of particular interest to H.J. Hansen where a number of navel ships were cut up for scrap. Later on H.J. Hansen has also scrapped several other types of vessels and other maritime units such as floating docks and bridge elements.
Decommissioning in the Future
We believe decommissioning of large ships, oil rigs and offshore wind power facilities is an emerging business area.
