Intergraph SmartMarine: Boosting Efficiency while Saving Money
To manage the challenges of producing increasingly complex ships and offshore platforms, the world’s top offshore and marine industry leaders are continually seeking ways to increase productivity and accelerate project schedules while maintaining safety standards and high quality. Intergraph’ software for the design, construction, operation and management of plants, ships and offshore facilities provides efficiency increases of up to 30% in the generation and management of engineering data.
Historically, companies around the world have had to make considerable initial and on-going investments to develop applications and integrate them with commercial solutions. With a new generation of integrated software solutions on the market, marine and offshore companies can improve productivity and save costs by producing high-quality deliverables in less time. Data-centric, rules-based 3D technology enables better user productivity, improved collaboration and higher quality engineering deliverables than previously available.
Intergraph® has spent the last 25 years developing and bringing to market a set of integrated applications that deliver and define the engineering, construction and fabrication enterprises. SmartMarine® Enterprise gives offshore clients the largest set of market-leading applications, starting from the schematic design of an asset through to physical modelling, materials management, construction management, fabrication automation and information management.
Behind the scenes at Samsung Heavy Industries
One of the customers who standardized on SmartMarine 3D is Samsung Heavy Industries. Since its establishment in 1974, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has gained recognition for its world-leading shipbuilding technology by winning orders from many of the industry’s leading shippers. Samsung Heavy Industries has built the world’s highest number of drill ships and successfully delivered the largest ever marine platforms and semi-submersible drilling facilities.
SHI began a pilot project for offshore projects using SmartMarine 3D. Based on positive results from the pilot, SHI has standardized on SmartMarine 3D for all marine projects, both offshore and shipbuilding. The company has accelerated its original schedule to more quickly reach implementation and full production stages for SHI offshore projects. SHI could leverage benefits in 3D modelling and design checking; rules-based architecture; advanced capabilities for the offshore industry; production-ready models, and multiple uses for models, among other benefits.
One step ahead
Facilities and requirements change every day and engineering management systems have to keep up to speed. Last year, Intergraph released upgrades for its market-leading, next-generation plant, offshore and material handling design solutions, SmartPlant 3D, SmartMarine 3D and SmartPlant 3D Materials Handling Edition, collectively known as Smart 3D. All three Smart 3D 2011 R1 solutions are available to customers in the process, power, offshore and marine industries. This year, Intergraph will launch additional solutions to leverage existing plant engineering information and Intergraph online cloud computing environment, so customers can access Intergraph solutions from the internet at any time, from any location.
Oil and gas companies of all sizes face growing challenges to remain competitive and profitable, and need every advantage possible to stay one step ahead. Interoperability and data-centric, rule-based technology can offer intelligent answers to these challenges – in today’s and tomorrow’s market.
